The HSBN Fall Classic smashed back into action with it’s seventh annual opening day on Saturday, with several teams taking home victories that secured them with an early lead in Pool Play. The Flying L’s took home a 10-5 win over the Mustangs to start in the lead position of 18U Pool A, while Knights Baseball defeated the South Florida Anglers 14-1 and the Hurricanes downed the Beach Bombers 5-1 in 18U Pool C. In 16U action, the Pines Panthers edged The Dawgs 3-1 in 16U Pool A.

The easiest way to ensure a team earns a spot in the second round is to win the pool, although there is always hope to be one of the four wild-card teams to also make it. After wins and head-to-head results, the next criteria applied is the runs teams allow to be scored upon them. Having only surrendered one run apiece, both current leaders of 18U Pool C are also in great shape to continue on.

The Hurricanes and Knights will face off on Sunday night for a chance at a 2-0 record atop 18U Pool C, and a low-scoring result could leave both clubs with a great chance to advance. Should the sides tie against each other, the Knights would hold an advantage heading into further action since they scored more runs thus far, which is the next tie-breaker criteria applied.

With so much baseball yet to be played, hope remains for every team looking to advance to the second round of tournament play.
