The MVP Banditos grabbed the lead right away and then kept piling on to run away to a 12-0 victory over the Top American Prospects Thursday night, in the HSBN Boys of Summer June A 16U title game. The Banditos grabbed their second straight HSBN tournament title, after also winning the Winter Classic. Both teams also secured a berth in the Boys of Summer Champions Tournament at the end of July.

Leadoff hitter Jonathan Vega lined a double down the third base line to start things off in the top of the first. Keshav Babu then followed with an RBI single that put MVP on the scoreboard.

Top American Prospects responded by turning a double play to get out of the inning with minimal damage. After Jordan Alvarez singled, TAP shortstop Sebastian Rodriguez charged an infield grounder, made the unassisted force out at second and then fired to Duilio Baltodano at first for the inning-ending double play.

Rodriguez worked a lead-off walk for TAP in the bottom of the first, moved to second thanks to a sacrifice bunt from Matt Rubin, and had his team working to grab the momentum. But MVP starter Armando Sierra dug in and struck out the next two batters, the first two victims on a night in which he fanned eight in all. Sierra went the distance for the complete-game shutout victory, allowing a hit and two walks over five innings.

The Banditos (3-0) took control in the second inning. Alex Del Rio reached on an error and scored off an RBI single from Sierra on a screamer into shallow right field. Vega walked and Babu singled to load the bases for Alvarez, who delivered with a liner to center that plated Eric Verdera and Vega to make it a 4-0 ball game.

MVP scored in each of the next three innings to put things away. MC Sagaro added an RBI single in the third, before they blew things open with five runs in the fourth. Del Rio had an RBI double and Sierra drove in two with a single during the big scoring burst. Vega and Alvarez both followed with RBI singles, and Verdera singled and scored on an RBI from Sierra in the seventh to close out the scoring.

Bryce Proulx broke up the no-hit bid with a single to right field in the third, accounting for the lone hit for Top American Prospects (2-1).
