The way the Beach Bombers swung the bat during the June A tournament, it was almost too easy to overlook the great pitching they also received. With the offense still swinging away, the pitching staff carried a no-hitter deep into the action to combine into a 9-0 shutout victory over the Paladins in Wednesday’s 18U title game at Davis Field in Oakland Park.

Four hurlers combined for the shutout victory for the Bombers (4-0). Starter Nolan Santos set the tone with three scoreless frames to earn the victory, as he struck out four and walked two. Tyler Zirbes broke up the no-hitter in the fifth against reliever Sam Weintraub, who struck out two in his inning of work. Left-handers Jonathan Caballero and Brian Atencio then combined for three scoreless frames to close it out.

The Bombers wasted no time in grabbing the lead with three runs in the first. Kevin Barreneche walked to lead off and Emanuel Rodriguez smacked an RBI double deep to left field. Jony Vasallo followed by stroking a shot deep into the right-center gap for another RBI double, before later scoring on a balk.

Beach then kept adding on to its lead as things went on. Emanuel Rodriguez and Vasallo both reached and then scored on a two-RBI double from David Munoz in the third. An inning later, Nolan Santos and Carlos Rey both walked, Santos scored on a balk and Rey then came in on an RBI single from Barreneche. Manuel Senibal walked and scored on an RBI from Emmanuel Arias and Barreneche singled and scored on another RBI double from Emanuel Rodriguez for the final runs in the sixth.

Both teams have also qualified for the HSBN Boys of Summer Champions Tournament at the end of July.
